Sexual problem concept

As Santa Monica matchmakers, we know it’s important to look out for red flags on a first date. After all, we don’t want to find out that they guy we’re about to date is actually living at home when he said he has his own place… Or that he’s obsessed and won’t stop talking about the last person he dated… Or even that he’s not the person we thought we was.

We’re used to talking about red flags, especially with our friends. For example, if our bestie tells us that the guy she’s just started seeing isn’t answering her calls, we find ourselves saying, “That’s totally a huge red flag.”

However, there are often red flags in our own relationships – red flags we don’t even see.

Have you been questioning your relationship lately? Does it feel like something is off, perhaps with how you feel towards them?

Red Flags You’re Not in Love

Today, our Santa Monica matchmakers are going to show you red flags in your relationship that show you’re not in love with your partner anymore.

1. You get annoyed when he’s romantic.

Wait, what? If your boyfriend does sweet and romantic things for you, you should definitely be happy. Maybe he booked dinner reservations at a trendy restaurant in town because he knows you love that style of food. Or perhaps he gave you a sweet speech about how much he loves you.

If you call him a clinger or make fun of him whenever he’s being romantic, that’s a huge red flag. Your gut instinct isn’t to give him a big hug and tell him how much you love him. Instead, you feel like he’s being too over-the-top. At one point you would’ve loved this, but now you don’t. That’s because you’re not actually in love with him.

2. You would rather go out with your friends.

Keeping your friendships going strong is very important for a relationship. It’s something that you should do even when you are so busy that you barely have time to see your besties. But when it comes at the expense of your relationship, that’s when you know you have a problem.

When you would rather go out with your friends than spend time with your boyfriend, that’s a huge red flag. This is especially true if you’re always making social plans on Friday nights with your girls instead of going out on dates with your guy.

3. You complain about him to your friends.

A lot of people complain about their partners with their friends. Even if your best friends always tell you that their partners have a lot of flaws, you don’t want to fall into this bad habit. Don’t get into the habit of discussing your romantic life with others or say negative things about your boyfriend.

When you always complain to your friends about your partner, you might not see it as a big deal. After all, everyone does that right? Isn’t this what normal people do?

The truth is that you might see your partner’s flaws since no one is perfect. But you should maintain a level of respect in your relationship and never speak behind your partner’s back. After all, you have flaws too. How would you feel if your partner went airing all your flaws and shortcoming to his friends? If you rarely do anything but complain about your guy, chances are the love is fading.

Relationships are great but take a lot of work too. If you find yourself slacking off and not wanting to spend time with your guy, it’s time to reevaluate. Ask yourself your true feelings for him. Do you think the relationship is over? Did you just hit a rough patch that can be worked through? This is where you have to really think and be honest with yourself. If you’re not in love, it’s not fair to drag things out.
